Imaginary Adventures : Episode 7 - Paws Up at Jagalchi

This time, Halbae and Namu's imaginary adventure takes them to Jagalchi — and honestly, it was Halbae's idea all along. Halbae absolutely loves grilled fish and raw fish. As a true Busan person living by the sea, his eyes light up at the sight of fresh seafood. Jagalchi isn't just a market to him — it's a place full of delicious memories. Picture Halbae sitting down in front of a plate of fresh sashimi, the happiest man alive. And right beside him, naturally, is Namu. So what happened when Namu came face to face with a market full of live, wriggling seafood? Let's find out!

💡Satoori Spotlight : 천지빼까리 (cheon-ji-ppae-kka-ri)

"물고기가 천지빼까리제?" (Fish everywhere you look, huh?)

천지빼까리 (cheon-ji-ppae-kka-ri) is a beloved Gyeongsang-do dialect expression meaning "there's an enormous amount of something — as far as the eye can see." The phrase paints a picture of abundance so vast it fills the space between heaven and earth. It's the kind of word you say when you're genuinely overwhelmed by how much of something there is. Walking through Jagalchi Market with fish tanks stacked high in every direction, it's hard to think of a more fitting word to reach for.

천지빼까리 (cheon-ji-ppae-kka-ri)

The tricky part is the 'pp' and 'kk' in the middle — these are what Korean linguists call tensed consonants. Instead of a soft 'p' or 'k', you tighten your throat slightly and push the sound out with a little more force. Think of the difference between a gentle tap and a sharp snap. Once you get it, it feels surprisingly satisfying to say! 😄

🐾 Butler's Note

There was one thing I wanted to stay true to when drawing this episode: Namu's real personality.

Namu has absolutely no interest in human food. I mean it. Grilled fish on the table, the smell of roasted squid drifting through the kitchen — she'll walk past, give it one sniff, and keep moving. She doesn't even jump up on the table when there's food on it. It surprised me at first, honestly. Most cats are relentless about food. But Namu genuinely only cares about her own bowl.

So in the imaginary restaurant scene, while Halbae enjoys his sashimi, Namu sits beside him with her own little dish of dry cat food, eating away without a second glance at his plate. When Halbae asks "Looks good, doesn't it?" — Namu answers "Mine's better." She can talk in this imaginary world, but even so, her answer is completely, perfectly in character.

The cat who goes into full hunter mode in front of a tank of live octopus, then walks straight past a plate of grilled fish without a second thought. That's my Namu!
